sustainably somewhere else: The Podcast from Good Travel
I'm Ina: climate journalist, bioblogger and full-time vagabond... and your voice on the topic of sustainable travel.
How can we travel in a more environmentally and socially responsible way? How much CO2 emissions can I save if I travel by bus or sailboat instead of by plane? How do you find great excursion destinations on vacation that are easily accessible without a car? What screws can hosts turn if they want to make their hotel or holiday home more sustainable? When traveling, how do you recognize the best restaurants where you can enjoy with a clear conscience? And can I have a positive impact when traveling that goes beyond my own recovery?
We give answers
Our Good Travel author Ina addresses these and many other exciting questions about sustainable travel in the first season of our new travel podcast SUSTAINABLE WOANDERS. “I have been traveling as a digital nomad on land and water for seven years. And admittedly: I often despair at the construction sins, the garbage and the crowds of people that tourism brings to the most beautiful corners of our planet. But that's why it's better not to travel at all - that can't be the solution either. On the contrary: Seeing the world with our own eyes in all its overwhelming beauty, but also in its fragility, can even help us to really understand and internalize how worth protecting it is,” Ina is convinced.
We ask questions
In order for travel to become more sustainable, we need fresh ideas, new concepts – and smart minds. Ina interviewed some of them for the first season of our travel podcast. In each episode of the travel podcast SUSTAINABLE WOANDERS, she not only shares her own thoughts and experiences, but also speaks to people who work professionally to promote gentler, more ecological and fairer tourism.

Our
podcast episodes
from 5 to 1:
Episode 5: Creating Sustainable Impact
Tourism is all well and good – but isn’t there more to it? Can we also achieve a lasting impact with our travels that will make our summer tan last longer? What's the point of just one beach clean-up if I'm sitting on the couch at home a week later? How can you support projects and people in the travel destination in implementing good ideas sustainably?
Our podcast host Ina talks to Jule Weidner about these questions in this episode of “sustainably somewhere else”. Together with a team of young, committed people, Jule has created a platform that enables visionaries with ecological and social ambitions all over the world to finance their ideas. You can find out what this has to do with tourism in the interview and on the Social BnB website.
4th episode: Enjoy sustainably
How can I tell at first, second or perhaps third glance how responsibly a hotel or restaurant handles food? How do you avoid typical tourist traps where the same thing is served day after day, no matter what is in season?
In this episode, Ina chats about this and many other culinary details with her Good Travel colleague Geraldine Voss.
3rd episode: Sustainable accommodation
What role do certificates play in more ecological, greener, fairer tourism? How do you recognize greenwashing on vacation? And can I check from home whether hosts are really serious about their sustainability promises?
Our podcast host Ina talks about all of this in this episode of Sustainably Elsewhere with Magdalena Rungaldier. Magdalena is Managing Director of MAP Boutique Consultancy. Together with her team, she advises hotel operators on how their work can have a positive impact - for people and nature.
2nd episode: Sustainable mobility
In this episode of Sustainably Elsewhere, our podcast host Ina plays through these scenarios for you. However: Arrival and departure are only half the battle. The way we move towards the destination of our dreams also plays a role. That's why Ina talks to Hermann Weiss. He's always thought that you usually need a car to get to great outdoor destinations easily. Instead of despairing, he invented a nature trip. You can find out what this is and how Naturtrip can help you plan climate-friendly trips without a car in our interview and on the Naturtrip website:
1st episode: start
Another travel podcast? Absolutely! Anyone can travel, but there is still a lot to discover when it comes to good travel.
In the first episode of “sustainably somewhere else” our podcast host Ina talks to Good Travel founder Franziska. You will find out how we came to sustainable travel, how we determine whether hotels and holiday apartments meet our ecological and social standards, how we find them, and why, despite the climate crisis and overtourism, we are convinced that there are better ways to travel.
