A love letter to Provence
"A Campagne in Provence" Nestled in one of France's most beautiful regions, amidst meadows, vineyards, small springs, and oak forests, this 12th-century estate is an oasis of peace and tranquility. Hustle and bustle, noise, and stress are unheard of here.
A place to feel good
For almost 30 years, hosts Martina and Claude Fussler have been inviting guests to experience a special getaway surrounded by nature. Their regular guests describe the accommodation as peaceful, authentic, and full of enjoyment. The personal atmosphere, the attentive care, and the delicious food make the stay truly special.
The two hosts themselves used to travel extensively and lived in large cities like Strasbourg and Antwerp, until they gave in to their longing for more peace and nature and set out to find a new home in France. Originally, Claude was looking for an old watermill in Burgundy. But when Martina was taking her French course in Antibes and sitting under plane trees in the warm November sun, she knew: Here This is the perfect place. The light and the scents have enchanted her. The search for the ideal spot in Provence took a little longer, but she couldn't have found a better place.
A double new beginning
After moving from Switzerland – with their newborn son in their arms – years of careful renovation and maintenance of the 190-hectare property followed. Claude, who worked in ecology, contributed valuable knowledge: new areas were reforested and habitats for birds and butterflies were created. In winter, the local natural springs are reactivated by the rain. A stream even flows through the grounds then – a true gift for both people and nature.
Guest Kiki says: “It couldn’t have been better! An authentic blend of old and modern – the underfloor heating is a dream – everything exudes a feeling of well-being. Everything is lovingly designed, but never contrived; it always feels natural and perfectly suited to Provence.”
The interiors are designed with a keen eye for materials and details. Light natural tones, old stone walls, and old wooden beams create a warm, authentic atmosphere. Each room has its own charm and unique character.
Savoir-vivre with a personal touch
The communal dinners are especially popular, offering a relaxed and family-like atmosphere. Those relaxing by the large pool during the day can already smell the aromas wafting from the kitchen through the gardens – a taste of what's to come in the evening. The evenings begin with an aperitif – often a light, local white wine – and light appetizers. Small groups often gather here, then take their seats together at tables in the charming courtyard. There's plenty to talk about, such as which excursions or sights are particularly worthwhile. And while the adults chat all evening, the children can play together in the garden – no one has to stay at the table. The warm summer evenings are simply too lovely to go to bed.
Explore the surroundings – or simply stay put
Even in spring, there's plenty to explore here, and the sun shines more often than at home. And if you happen to spot a deer in the early morning mist or the still-low afternoon sun, it's especially lovely. The countryside invites you to linger, but of course, there's also much to see. The charming towns of Bras, Cotignac (with its pilgrimage church of Notre-Dame de Grâces), and St. Maximin-Saint-Baume, with its basilica, still offer authentic Provençal flair. The shops, galleries, and weekly market in Aix-en-Provence are delightful destinations. In winter, the markets offer chestnuts, mushrooms, and dried lavender as souvenirs to take home. Then spring arrives, and everything bursts into bloom and fills the air with fragrance – almond trees, quince, thyme, rosemary, and a multitude of wildflowers, such as the magnificent red poppy.
Another special place is the Maria Magdalena Grotto, an almost mystical pilgrimage site nestled amidst oak and pine forests. Along the way, you'll find plateaus in the mountains offering views stretching to the Alps and the sea. The Verdon Gorge (Gorges du Verdon) is also a true highlight, perfect for hiking, water sports, and boat trips – again, it's best to ask your hosts for their great tips.
The beaches of the Côte d'Azur are also just an hour away. The pretty town of Cassis is particularly beautiful in the off-season. Boats depart from the harbor for excursions along the famous Calanques, small coves along the coast accessible only by water. Cassis also has a small town beach and many excellent seafood restaurants in the narrow streets around the harbor.
Activities amidst hills, forests and colorful fields
Whether forest bathing, hiking, or cycling – a network of tranquil paths winds through the picturesque landscape. A solar charging station is available for e-bikes, and a local guide can accompany small groups on bike rides or hikes upon request. To ensure the tours are tailored to your needs and preferences, it's advisable to discuss your requirements with your hosts in advance. Beautiful canoe trips are also offered in the surrounding area.
Perfect for workshops & retreats
Up to 35 adults can stay here, depending on their preferences. It's an ideal size for seminars, workshops, or retreats. The barn offers ample space for all kinds of creative endeavors. Especially in spring and autumn, the grounds are perfect for focused sessions – it's not too hot, yet the midday sun warms the bones beautifully. During breaks or after the course, you can stretch your legs and visit the natural springs, the stream, or the animals. Underfloor heating ensures comfortable hours even on cooler evenings. In winter, guests often stay for extended breaks and enjoy the slower pace of life. Many also come here to work remotely – or "télétravail" in French – thanks to a very stable connection to the outside world via fiber optic cable.
The hosts can also arrange for a German-speaking yoga instructor or a near-mystical sound bowl massage in the old chapel on the property. In addition, there are numerous animals on the farm and a paddock with ponies. An experienced riding instructor offers wonderful lessons for children and adults.
Guest Kiki says: "Anyone who has been here once will surely come back. This place is special in every season. Waking up to a view of the vineyard and returning from an excursion into the enchanting surroundings to see a deer disappear into the adjacent forest is indescribable."

Many guests love to return time and again. It's these thoughtful details, the genuine interest in the guests, and the desire for everyone to feel completely at ease that make the stay so special. Just as Martina felt under the plane trees that Provence was her place, today's guests also feel they've arrived in the right spot, and many will likely be returning.
