On the northwest coast of Denmark in Agger there is an architecturally impressive holiday home called lighthouseIt was designed by Danish architect Søren Sarup, who originally built it as his own weekend retreat. His primary concern with his buildings is timelessness and durability, so they remain pleasing to the eye and well-preserved for years to come.
The numerous large glass surfaces allow for a fantastic view of the surrounding nature from almost every room – the large lake, the expansive meadows, the trees, or the dunes. Admiring the starry sky at sunrise and sunset is particularly beautiful. The lake is home to many birds and otters. The gentle sound of the waves always accompanies the place.



2. Croatia: Cherries, kiwis and chestnuts in Istria
The Villa Stepančić in Croatian Istria is surrounded by fragrant shrubs and forests. There are no neighbors and the property is unfenced, allowing guests to roam freely. Along with the chirping of birds, guests can expect peace and quiet and a time spent in harmony with nature. The house was built around 1900 and is one of the oldest buildings in the village.
In earlier times, it was used as a restaurant with its own bocce court. The current owner's family has lived in the region for decades and didn't want to let the house fall into disrepair, so they purchased it in 2016. Now, the house is a perfect place for a beach holiday with the whole family.
The bright and spacious living area, with a fireplace and a cozy dining table, invites guests to cook and eat together. Floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors open to two terraces, offering magnificent views of the gardens, the forest, and the pool. The garden features flowers and various trees, including cherries, kiwis, and chestnuts. Not far away lies the Adriatic coast with its beautiful beaches and crystal-clear waters, as well as the landscape of the Istrian peninsula with its hilltop towns and diverse culinary offerings.



3. Pure Baltic Sea feeling: The Prerow seascape
The Seascape Prerow The property was intended for rental from the outset and was planned and furnished accordingly. The hosts were excited to combine modern architecture with regional materials to create contemporary accommodations.
The idea of the holiday home was realized with the help of architects and has been open to guests since 2017. Here, you can cook together, take a sauna, read, play games, or sit outside by the fire bowl.
The region of the Fischland Darß Zingst peninsula in the Vorpommern-Rügen district offers numerous opportunities for excursions and activities: vast, undeveloped meadows, long beaches, the Darß Forest, and the dunes right on your doorstep. The building's clear south-facing orientation and the holiday home's two terraces provide the ideal setting for a relaxing holiday. Even in bad weather, you can make yourself comfortable in the house and enjoy the magnificent nature through the large windows.



4. Greece: A villa between sky and sea
As one of the first houses built in the early 1980s in this region in the rather quiet northeast of the island, the Aurora Viu A newly renovated villa bathed in a new light. And light is the central theme here. From the first-floor balcony, you can watch the moon rise over the sea. In the leafy courtyard, trees provide pleasant natural shade in the summer. And the whitewashed house shines brightly, competing with the sun. A dream for a family beach holiday.
The spacious property with its large garden is just a two-minute walk from the sea. The various sleeping areas all have balconies or terraces, giving the entire building a pleasant airiness. This is complemented by modern and stylish furnishings that simultaneously honor the traditional architecture and materials of the surrounding area.
The owner is a goldsmith living in Athens who works extensively with natural materials and has incorporated her eye for beautiful details into the interior design. Traditional wicker baskets invite you to shop for regional delicacies. The kitchen leads to the patio, where you can enjoy the meal you've prepared together – slowing down can be so wonderful.



5. Sweden: A charming former fish factory on the waterfront
Loading factories Literally means "fish crate factory" and is the name of this charming accommodation. Located in a beautiful archipelago off Sweden's west coast, this is where wooden fish crates and boats were once manufactured for the local fish factory.
The unique and lovingly renovated building features four tastefully furnished guest rooms with en-suite bathrooms. Beautiful finds from all over the world, trendy fabrics, Scandinavian classics, retro furniture, and plenty of cozy light sources create a wonderful atmosphere.
Hosts Johan and Marcel began renovating the house themselves in 2010 and still do almost everything themselves. In the evenings, guests can enjoy a delicious three-course meal made with only local organic produce – primarily fish and shellfish – in the large, family-friendly kitchen. Surrounded by nature and overlooking the water, this is a wonderful place to unwind and take a deep breath. A unique beach holiday for those seeking something special.

Yes, unfortunately, travel is becoming more and more expensive and thus more and more of a luxury. With Good Travel, we still try to find really affordable and nice accommodations (e.g. https://blog.goodtravel.de/2023/04/05/5-orte-fuer-unter-hundert-euro/However, it is becoming increasingly challenging for hosts to offer such affordable accommodations, as everything else is becoming more expensive (energy, staff, food, etc.).
