Five places for a great holiday in Germany

Traveling in Germany is becoming increasingly popular. More overnight stays were booked in 2024 than ever before. In addition to campsites, vacation apartments and holiday homes are particularly popular for vacations in Germany, as they are generally more budget-friendly. Many regions also focus on sustainable tourism with well-developed rail and cycle paths, making climate-friendly travel easier.

1. A holiday home like 200 years ago in the Black Forest

The vacation home bulwark is located in the heart of the Black Forest. The owners are Christian and Kerstin Weltin, who live here with their three daughters. They bought and renovated the over 200-year-old farmhouse three years ago. In doing so, they have fulfilled a dream. The light-filled farmhouse parlor impresses with its old wooden ceiling, which stretches across the entire room and recalls times long past. Especially on cold days, when the fire crackles softly in the fireplace, the traditional "tile art" invites you to linger. The adjoining dining room features a large table that comfortably seats up to six people. The two bedrooms are furnished with comfortable beds, and the bathroom, with a wellness feel, features underfloor heating and a rain shower.

Just a few minutes' walk from the house is the entrance to the wild and romantic Wutach Gorge. Here, you can immerse yourself in a stunning primeval landscape with deep ravines and unspoiled forests. Numerous hiking trails crisscross the gorge, and each tour offers special highlights and unforgettable hiking experiences.

2. A romantic guesthouse on Hiddensee

In the guesthouse LONG PLACE On Hiddensee, guests enjoy stunning views over the Bodden and the picturesque marina. The guesthouse is the perfect place to unwind. The secluded location, despite its proximity to the main town of Vitte, and the spacious grounds allow for a relaxed and intimate atmosphere.

The hosts themselves spent many years vacationing on Hiddensee. For them, the island has become a place of longing and refuge. They now want to share this place with their guests. Vacationers will not find an overcrowded hotel here, but rather staff who are committed to making every stay truly special. The bright and cozy rooms differ only in their color scheme and the furniture and accessories they have restored themselves. Upon arrival, fresh meadow flowers await guests in the rooms. There is deliberately no television in the rooms. This sense of slowness can be found everywhere on Hiddensee – here, carriages replace cars, and conversations replace cell reception.

3. A former rectory on the Elbe

The Mödlich Rectory is a rural idyll in the Brandenburg Elbe Valley. The old rectory, built in 1865, stood empty for more than 20 years and gradually fell into disrepair until the current owners, Frîa Hagen and Volker Warning, carefully renovated it to preserve its special charm. Today, the rectory radiates a welcoming atmosphere and invites you to spend relaxing holidays in any season.

The house's location, surrounded by a large park with a pond and mature trees directly behind the Elbe dike, quickly puts all guests in a state of relaxation. Small and large swimming lakes alternate with the last remaining shifting dunes in the northern German interior, and thousands of migratory birds rest here year after year. Just a short walk across the dike takes you to the secluded sandy Elbe beach. And those seeking some company can stop off at the Elbeglück garden restaurant, just 600 meters away, and enjoy homemade cake. Here, everything is practically on your doorstep, and that feels incredibly good.
