Little Miss Sunshine: A Road Movie for the Heart

One of my absolute favorite films is Little Miss Sunshine - a road movie from New Mexico to California. The tragicomedy tells the story of little Olive, who wants to become a beauty queen, in a humorous way. Her chances are not very good, however, because Olive does not conform to the exaggerated beauty ideals of the child beauty queens in America.

The girl and her chaotic family set off together for the "Little Miss Sunshine" competition. The family experiences many ups and downs along the way, but they also grow closer on the journey. The story culminates in a legendary scene in which Olive finally gets the support she has longed for. It is told so beautifully that you can't help but love all the characters.

The Salt Path: An autobiographical novel about a very special hike

Sometimes books that are given as gifts are a great surprise. I was relatively unprepared when I found this book in my travel backpack and it thrilled me. The true story of Raynor Winn and her husband Moth is unbelievable and touching. From one day to the next, the couple not only lose their farm and with it their home, but Moth also receives a devastating diagnosis. And so the couple makes an unusual decision - they use their new involuntary freedom and finiteness to hike along the South West Coast Path, England's most famous coastal path, with a small tent.

The protagonist tells of her journey, the great deprivations, but also the great happiness of being on the road, in a very authentic and sometimes very painful way. They are exposed to the weather and hunger as well as their sometimes gloomy thoughts and society's view of people without means. But they are always helped and there are very enriching encounters and incredible experiences in nature. Readers learn a lot about England, the nature on the island, poverty and the fact that courage is almost always rewarded. And (spoiler alert!!) it was not her last hiking trip and the book has become a worldwide bestseller that has just been made into a film.

radioReisen: A podcast with inspiring travel stories

A podcast for everyone who wants to discover foreign cultures, interesting people and unknown places while traveling. Bärbel Wossagk and David Mayonga each tell three stories per episode. Their exciting reports and interviews are often unusual and very lively thanks to background sounds and entertaining favorite music from the guests.

The topics vary from the rescue of sea turtles in Guinea-Bissau or the initiative Kos we care on the Greek island of Kos. It's about winter hikes on the Way of St. James, the public transport system in Japan or creative holidays: Gibsy Swing in the artist village of Neumarkt an der Raab. You would like to visit the places presented immediately. The episodes are available in the ARD audio library

Lots of travel inspiration is waiting for you here!
