Five cool and sustainable tips for a city trip to Porto

Portugal's second largest city is a vibrant city that invites you to stroll and constantly explore. Porto not only has a lot to tell in terms of history, but visitors also learn about sustainability: for example, what short food routes look like or the production of sustainable fashion. A little outside the center there are places that invite you to relax completely. A perfect mix of city life and peace and quiet! 

 

Porto is located in the north of Portugal, on the Atlantic coast and on the north bank of the Duoro River, which flows into it - the view of the water never gets boring and there are many places to enjoy it! At the same time, there are a number of green oases spread across the city, which always offer the opportunity to enjoy a shady spot.

Olá from Porto! Cécile has been able to visit Porto several times and has stayed a little longer each time. Here are five of her favorite places by the sea and in the center where you can eat really delicious food and pass the time.

2. Piscinas de Marés

Since Porto is located directly on the sea, you can enjoy a meter-long coastline in both the south and the north. Piscinas de Marés, various sea pools, are a pool complex on the beach, located a little north of the city center. Perfect for sunny days and when the Atlantic is a little too cold for you. Here you can relax wonderfully, eat small snacks and jump into the cool water.

3. The Feeting Room

Portugal is the hub for sustainable fashion production in southern Europe, so it's no wonder that you're constantly discovering local labels presenting their latest collections made from sustainable materials.

The Feeting Room describes itself as a home for independent brands. Originally started with shoes, the range has expanded and now offers fashion and lifestyle items from up-and-coming talent. In the in-house café “SO Coffee Roasters” you can get fair trade coffee.

4. Casa Do Design

Art and culture are not neglected in Porto and the surrounding area! From theaters, museums, art galleries to public cultural events, most of which are free of charge, there is always something to experience in Porto. Here you can get to know the creative lifestyle of the Portuguese - full of color, movement and music.

A central location for exhibitions on the subject of design is the Casa Do Design in Matosinhos. Various exhibitions aim to stimulate debate on contemporary design culture and sustainability.

5. Aduela

A good evening starts with an aperitivo and a few snacks - such as olives, peanuts or tremoços (lupins). Afterwards, you go to one of the many restaurants, have a good time and then end the evening in a bar. Especially at the weekend, the bars are so full that the bar life takes place on the street, the atmosphere is simply wonderful and the next morning comes quicker than you think.

Die Eckbar Aduela attracts many young and old people in the evening. Wine, drinks and snacks are ordered at the bar. If you're lucky, you can get one of the tables in front of the bar, otherwise you stand or sit on the curb and enjoy the warm evening.
