Golden autumn days in the Zugspitz region
Sponsored Post
Autumn is an ideal time for hiking: nature is in bright colors, the temperatures are pleasant, the air is clear and refreshing. But even in this colorful season, which is perfect for hiking, good preparation and following a few rules of conduct are essential in order to enjoy hiking safely and relaxed. In this article, you will learn how to behave properly when hiking in autumn, which hiking tours in the Zugspitz region are particularly recommended and which events in the autumnal nature you should not miss.
Useful information for carefree mountain hikes
1. Time management: Leave early and return in time
In autumn, the days are significantly shorter. Before you go on your tour, find out the exact time of sunset and plan your hike so that you are back in the valley before nightfall at the latest. It is better to choose shorter tours and set off early to avoid getting caught in the dark.
2. Weather report and preparation
Autumn can bring changeable weather, with sudden drops in temperature and the first snowfalls, especially at higher altitudes. So pay close attention to the weather forecast and be prepared for fog, rain or even snow. In addition to a hiking map, pack a GPS device or a tour app to help you find your way in poor visibility.
3. The right equipment: layered look and sturdy shoes
Since temperatures can vary greatly in autumn, the layering principle is particularly important when it comes to clothing. Wear breathable underwear, a warm layer such as fleece and a windproof and waterproof jacket. Warm gloves, a hat and a light down jacket are also essential. Sturdy, waterproof shoes with good tread are also essential, as the paths can be slippery.
4. Please keep dogs on a leash
Dogs romping on the meadow or taking a short cut off the path have the potential to harm many native species. Please pay attention to protecting native flora and fauna. Since we are in the "living, dining and bedroom" of these creatures, it is important to act in a way that is compatible with nature and cautious in order to protect their habitats. This means respecting protected areas for flora and fauna, avoiding feeding places for wild animals and keeping dogs on a leash.
5. Hut opening times and catering
Many mountain huts close at the end of September or beginning of October. Find out about the opening times in advance so that you don't find yourself standing in front of closed doors. Since most huts are no longer open in autumn, you should take enough provisions and water with you.

Guests and locals are then invited to a colorful village festival with a farmers' market. Only when all the cattle have survived the summer safely are they magnificently decorated - "wreathed".
