The successful mother-daughter duo relies on female power

VOLANS Swimwear is a Swiss swimwear label run by mother and daughter that not only takes the perfect fit for all women seriously, but also social responsibility and sustainable production. Mira and her daughter Ivon knew from the start that their swimwear should be produced in their home country of Croatia. The production facility is located in a small Croatian community with only around 1100 inhabitants. The two managing directors also attach particular importance to secure jobs for local mothers.

When they founded the company in 2018, they made the conscious decision to move to their home country out of a conviction that the quality of production is guaranteed there. But also because of the shared language and culture, as well as the personal connection with the employees - here they sew together, exchange ideas and laugh a lot. The family's Croatian roots are an elementary part of the brand.

“It is part of our philosophy and expression our belief that joint efforts and interpersonal relationships have the real value in the textile industry.”

Timeless and sustainable swimwear with tradition

VOLANS Swimwear creates particularly sustainable, ethical and innovative swimwear. Over 40 years of experience in the textile industry ensures that only the perfect fits make it into the collection. Elegant twists such as ruffles, two-tone colors, decorative seams, ornaments and individual necklines provide a modern touch.

But the sustainable concept is also modern. The production radius is limited to 500 kilometers, so the focus is on a few selected regional suppliers. All ideas and prototypes are designed and produced in the studio in Zurich. From photo shoots to packaging, as much as possible should be in and from Switzerland. The factories are in Como (fabric supplier) and Lyon (accessories) and the production facility, as I said, in Croatia.

High sun protection factor for bathing beauties

The meticulously selected premium fabrics from VOLANS Swimwear are designed to guarantee quality and durability as well as a comfortable feel. All materials used are therefore OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified. The material is quick-drying and has a sun protection factor of 50. It is also resistant to chlorine, salt, sweat and body lotions, which also contributes to its longevity.

The Italian fabric supplier of VOLANS Swimwear is considered a pioneer in the textile industry. With the so-called PEF (Product Environmental Footprint) allows you to track the entire ecological footprint of a product from production to sale. It is hard to get more transparent information about water consumption, the carbon footprint and the energy required. Especially in the textile industry, there are enormous opportunities to reduce consumption.

The future is rosy

This summer there are a few beautiful new models and colors. A charming old pink and a cool petrol blue complement the popular raspberry shade. There is also a new velvet series in midnight blue. You can't get more of a shimmering bathing beauty feeling.

For warm summer evenings, there are now also airy long dresses and fabric trousers made from leftover fabric from a well-known Italian designer. The number of trousers is limited and thus contributes to reducing the waste of resources. This cooperative and appreciative way of thinking is inspiring and really contributes to more sustainable favorite pieces that you want to keep for as long as possible.

What actually constitutes sustainable swimwear and how can you extend the lifespan of swimwear?

VOLANS uses a very high-quality polyamide as a material. It is of better quality than polyester. The polyamide material offers the highest level of comfort thanks to 3D LYCRA elastane. The structure of the fabric leads to active air circulation and ensures that moisture is quickly transported away. It also shapes and models the figure (SHAPE material).

In addition to the important OEKO TEX Standard 100 certificate, which stands for pollutant-tested textiles from the yarn to the finished product, VOLANS is also committed to the European Chemicals Regulation (REACH), which requires clothing manufacturers to ensure that the materials they produce, sell and use do not have a negative impact on human health or the environment. These and other measures are particularly important to the two entrepreneurs and ensure the trust of customers.

Care tips for sustainable swimwear

How to make your swimwear last longer and remain environmentally friendly:

  1. Avoid heavy metals: Look for textiles that do not contain environmentally harmful heavy metals and are certified according to the “Standard 100” by Oeko-Tex, such as VOLANS Swimwear
  2. Use wash bags: Use that Guppyfriend wash bagto filter microplastics during washing
  3. Prefer hand washing: Hand washing protects the fabric and reduces microplastics
  4. Do not wring: Squeeze out the water gently instead of wringing the swimwear to avoid damaging the fibers
  5. Shower immediately: Rinse off chlorine or salt water immediately after bathing in the shower, this saves the washing machine
  6. Dry in the shade: And contrary to all habit, do not dry your swimwear in the blazing sun, but in the shade to protect colors and fibers
