Five cultural tips from our city guides

Discover cultural highlights in Berlin, Copenhagen, Vienna, Paris and Porto. Here you will find sustainable culture tips

To conclude our little series with the best tips from our city guides, we share our favorite cultural tips with you.

1. Berlin: The Kino International is an icon

The Kino International has been a Berlin icon for over sixty years and is one of the most famous cinema monuments in the world. The large glass and concrete building in the Bauhaus style has a large hall with a foyer and bar. From here you have a great view of the famous Karl-Marx-Allee. Every film is still advertised with a huge hand-painted cinema poster. The premiere of the DEFA film “Coming Out” has a very special story. While the guests were still sitting in the cinema, the wall had fallen and the world was a different place.1.

2. Copenhagen: The Kunsthal Charlottenborg is an institution

Kunsthal Charlottenborg is one of the largest and most beautiful exhibition spaces for contemporary art in Northern Europe. The exhibition has an international focus, showing both talent and established stars from Denmark and abroad. Kunsthal Charlottenborg presents uncompromising and groundbreaking art. There are also artist talks, performances, concerts and film screenings, as well as a pretty cool bar in the courtyard.

3. Paris: The MEP is the place for photo fans

The collection of the MEP (short for Maison Européenne de la Photographie) covers the history of international photography from the 1950s to the present day. It brings together historical photographers and the work of prominent personalities such as Irving Penn, Pierre et Gilles, Nan Goldin and Helmut Newton. But of course also the works of up-and-coming photographers. The MEP is located in the heart of Paris in the beautiful Marais district, where there are numerous other galleries.

Like no other institution, the MAK (Museum of Applied Arts) represents the connection between past and future. The extensive collections and thematic special exhibitions are unique. The museum shop is also cool and inspiring and definitely worth a visit. The MAK is committed to sustainability and wants to become climate neutral by 2030. It is centrally located and easy to reach on foot, by bike or by public transport. And for anyone with a bicycle emergency, the concierge even has a repair kit.

Porto: The Casa do Design is a must for all design lovers

Casa do Design opened in 2016 and has since become a central place for exhibitions and discourse on design, with a particular focus on Portugal. There is a regular programme of exhibitions that stimulate thought and debate on contemporary design culture and explore different areas of design. Really stimulating and exciting.
