Accessible accommodation

Five barrier-free accommodations

It is not always easy to find beautiful accommodation whose sustainable concept also allows for true inclusion. Especially when it comes to sustainable accommodation, existing historical buildings have often been converted and renovated into hotels or holiday apartments in a resource-saving manner. Monument protection often leaves little scope for comprehensive accessibility. The following Good Travel hosts strive to ensure that all guests have a wonderful holiday. And at the same time, you should always ask our friendly hosts in advance if you have any individual accommodation requirements.

1. Can Morei – a historic building in the hinterland of Barcelona with a barrier-free pool

The Can Morei has been run by three families since 2015, who together have stylishly renovated the ensemble, which is over five hundred years old. You can still admire the beautiful old stone ceilings and wooden beams. There were also new, floor-to-ceiling windows through which light can stream in all day long. Large, comfortable beds and spacious bathrooms with natural stone ensure immediate well-being in the eight holiday apartments of different sizes. There is also a pool with a wonderful view and a covered whirlpool with plenty of loungers and parasols. In the evening, the building lights up invitingly and the friendly owners truly anticipate their guests' every wish. But many things are simply solved well. There is an entry aid for the pool and all common areas are barrier-free.

2. Kulturfabrik – an inclusive restaurant and overnight stay concept between Dresden and Görlitz

Since 2022 there has been in the Culture Factory nineteen holiday apartments and some larger rooms for seminars, workshops and celebrations. The Starke family has lovingly renovated the historic building, creating a successful mix of rural charm and cool industrial architecture. In addition, a place for lived inclusion was created where all people with their different talents can find fulfilling work and a secure environment. The holiday apartments are modernly furnished and local children not only gave the holiday apartments their name, but also helped with the design. The view from the windows of the village of Schönbach and the surrounding orchards, fields and forests ensure immediate relaxation. The central meeting point is the “Max” restaurant. A bright blue building in the middle of the courtyard, reminiscent of the town's traditional blueprint craft. The building is named after Max, the son of the owners, who is actually the originator of this idea and location that is worth supporting.

The committed team implements the ambitious goals with a lot of passion and enthusiasm. In the middle of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Elbe River Landscape lies the listed castle from the 13th century, surrounded by a large garden. A variety of offers for exercise in nature bring the desired grounding and relaxation. The traditions of the place paired with the sustainable ideas result in a harmonious concept. The rooms are located in the castle or in the historic castle school. When furnishing the hotel, attention was paid to organically certified furniture and materials. There are also barrier-free rooms, sufficiently wide doors and walk-in showers.

4. Craveiral Farmhouse – Portugal’s alternative and modern farmhouse

The Craveiraal Farmhouse was opened in 2018. It combines sustainable agriculture, gastronomy and the hotel industry and aims to convey regional culture and lifestyle as authentically as possible. The surrounding area offers many opportunities for activities for the whole family. The terrain of the farm itself, with the various pools, paths and animal enclosures, is very varied. The tasteful holiday homes are equipped with all the necessary comforts. Vegetables, fruit and herbs for cooking can be harvested directly from the farm garden. All houses are on one level, often with large, also on-level showers. The wooden walkways make it possible to explore the area. An inclusive working environment has been created in all areas. And from every pizza sold, one euro goes to the organization VilaComVida donated to support young people with Down syndrome, Asperger's or autism.

5. ALMA HOTEL – Living diversity in Zurich

The Alma Hotel operates sustainably and socially and is served regionally and fairly. In addition to the sixteen rooms and two apartments, it creates meeting spaces. Guests can cook together if they wish in the communal kitchen, read above the rooftops of Zurich, drink a cappuccino or aperitif on the veranda or doze in the rose garden. The hotel has also been offering training and work for women with difficult conditions for over twenty years with its integration program. In this way, the company shapes a corporate culture that experiences and exemplifies diversity as an enrichment. The hotel group to which the Alma Hotel belongs also rents out temporary living space for women in need. It's a really good feeling to be able to play a small part in such worthwhile projects as a guest.
