Five great places for an affordable family vacation
Even though everything seems to be getting more expensive, there are still beautiful accommodations for an affordable family vacation. Whether in Germany, Slovenia, Portugal or Denmark – we have put together some of our particularly beautiful accommodations for you, where children in particular can have a lot of fun and experience lots of nature. We wish you a nice holiday.
1. Dambækgaard – A hyggelig farm near Copenhagen
Dambækgaard is a sustainable farm in eastern Zealand, just an hour's drive from the metropolis of Copenhagen. Here holidaymakers will find a perfect mix of peace, relaxation and inspiration for a sustainable lifestyle in harmony with nature.
The host couple Kirstine and Jan live here with three children and allow guests and volunteers from all over the world to share in their farm life. The accommodation options include a holiday apartment, two guest rooms, a caravan and enough space for campervans and tents. Anyone who wants is always welcome to take part in the daily feeding, pick berries, light the fire pit, climb the trees in the garden or simply relax in the hammock. There is a lot to discover here, especially for families with children, and plenty of space to play and run around. And of course you can get some big city air in Copenhagen every now and then if you feel like it.

2. Quinta do Catalão – Glamping in the Algarve
Der Bauernhof “Quinta do Catalao” in the Portuguese Algarve, near Lagos, is the perfect place for a relaxing holiday away from mass tourism. The typical Portuguese farm stood empty for a few years before Karolina and Max discovered it with their three children. The farm now offers various small, cozy accommodations such as cabins or even a tent.
A day at Quinta do Catalão begins with a hearty breakfast, which includes good coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice. Afterwards, the highlight of the day awaits children: feeding the animals living on the farm (dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, geese, pigs and goats). The afternoons invite you to read a book in the comfortable hammocks or go to one of the beaches in the Algarve. In the evening you can have a barbecue together or bake a delicious pizza in the pizza oven. You can also look at the stars in the sky or the stars on the screen (via a projector) together in the garden.
