Time out in the "Auszeit am Tollensesee"
An article by Jule Weidner
Switch off, recharge your batteries and enjoy nature - I'm going to go to the Mecklenburg Lake District for a few days with the plan Tiny house in the "time out at the Tollensesee". Of course, my dog Greg can't be missing either. From Berlin I reach the accommodation after a good two hours. The route takes me through beautiful green and tranquil countryside and I can't wait to get there.
I turn one last time and I am greeted by the four dark gray wooden huts, called Cabins, in the middle of the green and with an amazing view over the Nonnenhof nature reserve. I arrived.
Time for me in the tiny house "Cabin One"
For the next few nights I'll stay in the cabin one. The Tiny House, built entirely of wood, is furnished in a modern, minimalist style. Nothing is missing here and everything superfluous was deliberately avoided, in the spirit of inner and outer peace. After exploring the accommodation a little and emptying my travel bag, I enjoy the spectacular view through the large picture window on the comfortable bench. You don't notice much of the other guests here, since the cabins were specially built with different lines of sight.
sun on the face
Luckily the weather is playing along so wonderfully. I sit outside on the terrace with a freshly brewed coffee and a good book. I am particularly pleased that I can slowly unpack my summer wardrobe and feel the light wind on my skin. My city dog Greg is also very happy about the large garden to romp around and comes to rest after a while in the sun. I enjoy the sounds of nature as the sun warms my face and I close my eyes.
In the midst of nature
I grab Greg and walk a bit to explore the area. After a short walk I reach a nature trail directly on the lake. A little further I come across an idyllic bathing spot in the middle of the forest. In the summer, it is ideal for cooling off a little while protected from the sun. The location of the cabins is really great. In the middle of nature without noise and light pollution. You can listen to the birds chirping, observe different species of birds, listen to insects buzzing by and, with luck, see deer and other wild animals scurrying past.
In the evening I enjoy the sunset from the panorama window with a glass of wine. I cover myself comfortably, listen to quiet music over the built-in speakers and slowly go to bed. Here I can watch the starry sky through the skylight and see how a few clouds slowly pass by.
Awakened by the sun
The sun wakes me up and slowly I start the day. The cabin is flooded with light and I open the large sliding door and let the sounds of nature finally wake me up - better than any music. With a coffee and a thick sweater, I sit outside for a moment. I grew up in a rural area, in a small village, and I totally realize how much that is sometimes missing in the big city. All the better that there are exactly such accommodations in the Berlin area. I find a yoga mat in the drawers of the bench seat and stretch out on the patio. So I start my day calmly.
In two of the four huts there is even a private sauna with a view, which brings even more relaxation if required. All cottages have their own terrace with barbecue and garden furniture. There is also the possibility to charge e-cars and the rental of bicycles and water sports equipment is planned.
Activities in the area
I drive off in the early afternoon to get to know the area more. I drive just under 20 minutes to the 12th-century Stargrad Castle and go exploring with Greg. I also visit the old tiled stove factory in Neustrelitz. There is a cinema, gallery and restaurant here. Other excursion destinations include the concert church in Neubrandenburg or the organic garden center in Watzkendorf with a yard sale. I drive back to my very own break and enjoy doing nothing to the fullest.
In the evening I cook my dinner in my own pantry kitchen. I must confess that the ragu from the Good Travel Cookbook is my absolute must-dish as soon as I have the time and mind to cook. I enjoy the last hours of the day with a good wine and a full stomach.
Vacation in your own country
The stay in the Tiny House during the break at the Tollensesee was totally relaxing and really beautiful for me. Holidays in your own country can be really great. Especially with a dog or as a family, the accommodation is perfect. Here you can really relax and enjoy nature in wind and weather, spend time together. And that really means more to me.
Deeply relaxed, I pack up my last things, sit outside for a moment and then slowly set off.
