Off to Kassel: art, accommodation and mobility
Fill up on art and enjoy Kassel in the Renthof
The 15th documenta starts on June 18, 2022 and, like every five years, invites thousands of national and international art lovers to admire contemporary art. The city will be in an art frenzy until September 25, 2022, which we as Good Travellers: inside do not want to miss. As before every trip, the question arises as to where is the best place to stay and how to get from A to B. In this article we present the new WeShare fleet for Kassel as well as the Renthof Kassel.
Renthof Kassel: royal blue velvet armchairs and like friends
They are already ready in the underground car park: e-bikes, an e-car, two charging stations for guests arriving with electric cars. With the MeineCardPlus, the bikes are free for four hours, as is local public transport. And if you organize an event at the Renthof, you get a discount on the train for your journey. "CO2-neutral mobility is simply part of sustainable travel, especially when so many people come to the documenta again soon.” Jasmin Ohlendorf smiles and pushes open the door to the Renthof – the hotel in the old Carmelite monastery in the middle of Kassel.
It's Sunday morning. The bright blue sky frames the stately natural stone building behind the Karlsaue. The dark brown oiled parquet floor leads into a palace of harmonious aesthetics: Royal blue velvet armchairs and modern chandeliers contrast the exposed ceiling beams and bricks, heavy stone columns stand next to playful floor tiles. A mix of natural materials, historical basic elements and modern design. Behind every corner there are niches in different styles and colours, arranged like walk-in still lifes. Up to the powder blue snail staircase that leads to the rooms.
Jasmin Ohlendorf has in a seating area next to the bar Takes a seat, takes a sip of cappuccino and pulls out the menu. “Sustainability was It was the principle of the Renthof right from the start, but during the lockdown we put everything to the test again.” From mobility to cleaning agents to organic food from the region. Spirits from overseas have been sorted out, and now even the whiskey comes from a farm around the corner. The soap is vegan, the laundry works with little water. Anyone who arrives from June to stock up on art in Kassel will get the Renthof extra highlight for two or more people: the ForFriends menu, a regional treat in dozens of little bowls to try, munch on and discover. And then in the Renthof it's a bit like staying with friends who invite you to dine together - simply beautiful all around.
