At Renthof Kassel

A house with a lot of heart - the Renthof Kassel

Travel again at last! How good it feels to be able to travel again and also to visit an accommodation from Good Travel, which I am responsible for acquiring, among other things, and to see it in real life. So I'm totally excited in the train on the way to the Renthof Kassel.

Soon afterwards, the landscape around Kassel shows its most beautiful side: Kassel is one of the greenest cities in Germany and welcomes me with a bright blue sky and a lively cityscape. The 20-minute walk from the train station to the Renthof flies by and I get my first good impressions of Kassel.

And suddenly I see Renthof Kassel: an impressive historical building, located between the city and nature. From the outside you can feel the wonderful history of the former Carmelite monastery from the 13th century.

The Renthof in Kassel

Tradition meets modernity

I walk through the cozy entrance area and am greeted with pure hospitality by the Renthof team. Jasmin, assistant to the management, takes the time to show me the Renthof with all its diverse facets and backgrounds in more detail.

The former Carmelite monastery and today's boutique hotel has 55 rooms that couldn't be more different. Each of the rooms has its very own charm and shows an extraordinary combination of different patterns and materials. I go up the creaky wooden stairs to my wonderful room. Here wood meets stone, fabric meets classic yet modern colors.

A walk between the hustle and bustle and nature

Soon Jasmin will go on an arranged walk around the Renthof together with Jasmin. Due to the direct location on the Fulda, guests can take a long walk or go jogging before breakfast. The hotel's own e-bikes can also be rented to cycle along the wonderful cycle paths along the Fulda. If you long for the city and culture, you only need ten minutes to get to the pedestrian zone in Kassel. The hotel also has its own parking garage with e-charging stations where cars can be parked under a roof.

The twittering of birds in the courtyard

Back at the Renthof, I find my place outside in the quiet inner courtyard and look forward to the regional cuisine in the in-house gourmet restaurant, which, by the way, can also be visited by non-hotel guests. It is so good to sit between the murmur of the guests and let the menu inspire me. The ingredients and dishes are seasonal and sourced from the region. The green thread of sustainability also runs through the regional spirits and wines. Of course there is also a vegan and vegetarian selection of dishes and food intolerances are taken into account.

Dining in the outdoor restaurant

After dinner, as Jasmin told me, flip-flops and suits actually meet in the in-house atmospheric bar and I find a place in the colorful mix of different people. In winter the fireplace crackles and candlelight creates a cozy atmosphere. Filled, happy and fulfilled I go to my soft and cozy bed and look forward to the next day at Renthof Kassel.

The next morning the first rays of sun hit my face and shortly afterwards I am on my way to breakfast. I have breakfast in the courtyard while the birds are singing. A regional buffet and coffee with oat milk, fruit and vegetables, muesli and fresh rolls with spreads await me. While I enjoy the morning rest, I watch as some guests enter the courtyard and prepare for an important conference in the in-house hybrid conference room.

Kassel is not just a documenta and world cultural heritage city

After breakfast I explore Kassel a little more closely. During a walk along the Fulda, I can watch stand-up paddlers, canoeists, cyclists and many walkers as they also let themselves be drifted. After a short time I reach the orangery with the impressive Karlsaue State Park. Here I decide to stay for a while and enjoy the tranquility of nature.

Kassel has a lot to offer culturally and I am interested in the Museum Fridericianum. You can currently visit an exhibition by Martine Syms and Vincent Fecteau. After the cultural program, I take a stroll back to Renthof, where I unfortunately have to pack my bag again and say goodbye to the friendly team. Even if it was only a short break, I will then happily return to Berlin and have totally enjoyed my relaxing stay at Renthof Kassel.
