Fashion that protects our seas
Win a T-shirt from SALZWASSER in our Easter competition. You can find more information on this at the end of this post.
The The fashion industry is making a big contribution to the climate and in times of fast fashion it is becoming more and more important to look for sustainable alternatives that confront this problem and come up with creative solutions that make the world a little bit better. The start-up "SALT WATER“Has made it no less a task than to save the world's oceans with their durable and sustainable clothing.
"With SALZWASSER we want to sell fashion that brings joy and at the same time does good for our environment and fellow human beings." - Jan Majora
Fashion that will save the oceans? You read that right. With the SALZWASSER brand, the two founders Jan and Lennart use mode as a platform to actively promote marine protection. This is made possible by the social business that is behind the brand.
The social business model combines the advantages of both forms of organization
This model combines the advantages of an entrepreneurial GmbH and a non-profit association to support projects in the field of marine and coastal protection. Specifically, this means that a fixed amount is paid to the association of the same name is donated. This then acts as a collection point for donations that are distributed to selected projects.
As a customer at SALZWASSER, you not only acquire high-quality favorite items, but also create a positive impact for the oceans at the same time.
We think the commitment of the fashion label from Hamburg is great and asked Lennart, one of the two founders of Salzwasser, our three questions.
1. What was or is your motivation behind SALZWASSER?
Using holistically sustainable and durable clothing as a platform to draw attention to the potentials and challenges of marine ecosystems and to actively pursue an environmental policy mandate in this area. At the same time, SALZWASSER should represent a transparent social business model that pursues an approach oriented towards the common good.
2. What do you advise our readers: What can you do specifically for a better future?
Generally rethink consumer decisions according to the motto “Do I really need this?”. Live a more minimalist life without painfully renouncing, sharing more, appreciating more. In addition, if it is to be consumed, then carefully. Find out more about the company and the owners. Find out where your money goes and what you support with it. As if by yourself, you will come to authentic, more sustainable brands and companies and to products or services that you have valued for a long time because the emotional bond is much higher.
3. How do travel and sustainability fit together for you?
You can also travel regionally. Too often you don't even know what's going on in the immediate vicinity. You rarely even explore your own city as if you were touring it for tourism. In addition, trips to more distant areas and different cultures can also form. Intercultural skills and the ability to see the world from different perspectives become incredibly important. Because the challenges of our time can only be solved sustainably with unprecedented global cooperation. Of course, it's better to go by bike, train, or at least by car. Sometimes, however, a flight can hardly be avoided. The only question is, do I really have to fly to Bali 3, 4, 5 times?
