Nice memories with these sustainable photo books

Who doesn't know that: you're on vacation and take countless pictures in the meantime. From the breathtaking natural landscapes, the delicious food on site to the fresh flowers on the garden table. Afterwards, unfortunately, hardly anyone looks at them anymore. I am a very good example of this. Last year I was in the north of England, and I took a whopping 243 pictures there. For a total of five days. That is just under 49 pictures per day.

5 travel days, 243 pictures: that's almost 49 pictures per day.

Quite a lot. Too much to really look at them again afterwards. Photo books are a great way to look at at least some of them over and over again. I'm a fan of it too. For more than four years now, I have had great pleasure in putting together such books, especially after traveling. For me it is also a wonderful opportunity to relive my vacation. Later I can share this joy with friends and family, because they too like to pick up the book and let themselves be carried away by the travel stories they have experienced.

There are suppliers who pay attention to sustainability in production, for example by using FSC-certified paper or by making the printing processes efficient. With this article we would like to introduce you to five such providers. So you can remember your trip not only beautifully, but also lastingly:

1. Traditional natural paper in the "Hejpix" photo books

The photo books from the Munich company Heypix not only look beautiful, they also feel unique to the touch. The reason for this is the high-quality natural paper used. The Old Mill paper is sourced from Fedrigoni, Italy's largest fine paper manufacturer. The Fedrigoni family's papermaking tradition dates back to the 18th century. At that time, paper was still extracted from natural fibers in old paper mills and scooped by hand. It is precisely this tradition that the Old Mill paper is intended to recall again. In addition, the paper is of course made elementally chlorine-free (ECF), FSC-certified, acid-free and particularly durable (according to ISO 9706).

2. Sustainability firmly anchored in the corporate culture at "Cewe"

The fact that even large companies have anchored sustainability in their corporate culture is laudable and worth striving for. The photo books from Cewe, headquartered in Oldenburg, are even produced completely climate-neutral. From the resource-saving use of materials to the careful selection of suppliers to environmentally conscious production and delivery. The entire value chain is transparent  and sustainable. In addition, the company is also committed to society and supports various social projects.

3. Preserve the family tradition with the “Milk Books”

Almost 20 years ago, Geoff Blackwell founded MILK, which stands for "Moments of Inspiration, Love and Kinship". His family had been producing books for half a century, and he has carried on this tradition ever since. With the photo books from MILK you can see that lasting beauty and first-class print quality are paramount. Paper types are offered that are all acid-free and FSC-certified. This means that they are not only good for the environment, but also guarantee a printed product that does not degrade or discolor with age. The result is photo books that will bring a lot of joy not only to the family, but also to future generations.

4. Environmental certificate for the provider "Happy Foto" in Austria

The Austrian provider Happy Foto is uncompromisingly environmentally friendly - from the preparation to the dispatch. As the largest photo book producer, there is also a large company on the Austrian side that has sustainability deeply anchored in its structures. The company was the first large photo laboratory to be awarded the EN ISO 1996 environmental certificate back in 14001. An annual Environmental report also documents the activities with regard to environmental protection.

5. FSC certification at the Cologne company "Pixum"

Another large provider is Pixum, based in Cologne, who also rely on the sustainable production of their photo books. The products are also FSC-certified, which means that only certified, environmentally friendly materials are used. FSC certification also means that the entire chain from processing to retail is based on an ecologically sensible and resource-saving basis. The versions of booklet, soft and hardcover are certified at Pixum, each with the premium paper available for them. In this way, you not only get high quality material, but also a product from responsibly managed forests.
