Janbeck*s FAIRhaus, all around fair
Janbeck * s FAIRhaus is located in Schleswig-Holstein, not far from the natural beaches of the Geltinger Bay. Here in the first climate-neutral hotel in Schleswig-Holstein, it is demonstrated how beautiful it is to live in sustainable accommodation.
The three-sided farm, which is typical for the region, has been completely refurbished and renovated by the operators Uta and Stephan Janbeck in recent years. Now the more than 250-year-old courtyard shines towards us on the driveway with its dark red brickwork and fresh thatched roof. Weeds bloom in the light gravel, which are allowed to live freely here, and sun-spotted seats invite you to linger under large old trees.
Herbal sewage treatment plant, photovoltaics and electromobility
During the renovation work, a plant-based sewage treatment system was built with a lot of muscle power. Here special reed plants are responsible for treating the drinking water used. This means that the treated water can be reused, for example, for flushing the toilet and for laundry. Overall, this saves more than 50 percent drinking water at Janbeck * s.
With the help of the photovoltaic system and two combined heat and power plants, over 90 percent of the company's own electricity requirements are generated. Some of it is needed at the farm's own electric filling station. This is where the three associated electric cars are refueled, which are also available to guests for excursions for a fee. Guests arriving with their own e-car can refuel here free of charge. It is not for nothing that Janbeck*s is a member of Park & Charge charging stations in the Federal Association of Solar Mobility eV - they have set themselves the goal of creating a nationwide network of charging stations.
About awards and networks
Janbeck * s' commitment has received numerous awards, such as the Viabono certification. The certificate is awarded to modern, climate-friendly tourism offers in Germany. Viabono was founded on the initiative of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety and the Federal Environment Agency. Janbeck * s was also certified with the Blue Swallow. The seal has been awarded to environmentally friendly accommodations by the journal Verträgliches Reisen since 1990.
Recently Janbeck * s also received the FAIRWÄRTS Prize. In cooperation with Kate and TourCert, service providers who deal with the topic of sustainability and fairness in tourism are honored.
"We want to show that everyone can do something in their own little area"
Ute Janbeck sets a good example in all of this and shows how not only other tourism companies can implement sustainability in their businesses with small details, but also how guests take a lot of impulses home with them. Janbeck * s is in its own way a unique place that would like to act as an inspiration for sustainable living.
Regional cuisine, naturally ecological and fairly traded
The heart of the property is the FAIRcafé. Uta Janbeck and her staff offer regional meals here. Everything, of course, is ecological and fair trade. Janbeck * s is a member of Slow Food eV and FEINHEIMISCH, where the members undertake to purchase at least 60 percent of the food from the region or the immediate vicinity. From the lovingly prepared breakfast to creative cakes and fragrant sheet cakes to tasty snacks, you are invited to feast all day. This can be done wonderfully inside in a bright, Scandinavian ambience or outside in the colorful, sunny cottage garden.
There are a total of seven holiday apartments in the Janbeck * s FAIRhaus, which have been furnished in the various buildings imaginatively and with a Scandinavian flair. All apartments have their own kitchen and almost all of them also have their own terraces with wide views of the open landscape.
Activities in the area
In the vicinity there are idyllic fishing villages, wonderful beaches and pure nature. The Geltinger Bay with its natural beaches and romantic bays invites you to take long walks and hikes at any time of the year. If you are lucky you can even spot eagles, kingfishers or porpoises. The nearby Schlei Nature Park also offers shelter for endangered bird species. Not only on foot, but also on the water, on the bike or even on a horse, these areas can be explored wonderfully.
A trip to the Wadden Sea on the North Sea is also highly recommended. Here you can learn more about the daily changing tides on a mudflat hike and get to know the adaptive artists who live here up close.
Janbeck * s FAIRhaus fits in perfectly with its holistic concept in this beautiful environment with its lush meadows, fields and natural beaches. Here you can - in every respect - relax and enjoy your holiday with a clear conscience.
