Five places in winter

Where is the most beautiful winter? In the mountains we find and have picked out five beautiful places where you can spend your next winter vacation. Breathe fresh mountain air during the day and enjoy the beautiful landscape. Walk through the snow and end the day comfortably in the evening with a cup of tea or even in the sauna. Sounds good? Then we recommend these five places:

1. Casa Santo Stefano, Ticino (Switzerland)

The Santo Stefano House is located in the middle of a gentle hilly landscape, which is surrounded by wild, romantic forests and beautiful mountain peaks. Far away from the hustle and bustle of the city, you can spend a few relaxing days here in the middle of a typical Ticino village and in untouched nature in the heart of Malcantone.

Relax completely with the large selection of different massages

The various massages in the hotel, which leave nothing to be desired, ensure relaxation. From relaxation massages to foot and head reflex massages to connective tissue massages and Bach flower consultations, qualified massage therapists pamper the guests all round. In addition, numerous yoga seminars, Qi Gong and Shiatsu courses as well as coaching, Pilates and guided hikes through the wintry environment ensure complete relaxation.

If that's not enough, you can indulge yourself in one of the cozy saunas, Roman thermal baths and brine baths that you can visit in the small towns of Cademario and Rivera on cold winter days.

2. Alfenalm, East Tyrol (Austria)

The offers a breathtakingly beautiful view over the Villgrater mountains Alfenalm. The alpine huts bring back childhood memories and it really feels a bit like taking a vacation with Heidi on the alpine pasture. It's just a little bigger here: up to 14 people can be accommodated here.

Not far from the Almdorf is the Giatlahaus, a 300 year old farmhouse that has recently been restored and expanded. It was built purely biologically, no chemical substances were used. As a guest, you can look forward to the shared sauna area and a fresh-air room with a panoramic view.

Breathe in the farm air and trudge in the snow

Not far away is the family's organic farm, which has been running the farm for over 100 years across generations. As a guest, you can join in if you want. Would you rather spend the day outside in the snow? The Alfenalm also offers toboggan and snowshoes for free rental.

3. Taxhof, Salzburger Land (Austria)

Also the Tax yard has been managed by the Unterberger family for 300 years. In the last three decades the hereditary farm has been expanded into a hostel. A lot of wood and natural materials have been used in the accommodations and the interior design impresses with a beautiful mix of old and new furniture. Above all, the guest is offered a family atmosphere in the midst of the mountains of the Hohe Tauern.

On the farm you live in harmony with nature and the numerous animals. Here cows with donkeys and chickens with goats live together peacefully and there is a lively petting zoo for children.

4. Hörger, Bavaria (Germany)

The  Biohotel Hörger is one of the pioneers in the sustainable hotel industry. It is particularly important for the hosts to convey to the guest that sustainability does not mean doing without, but rather contributes positively to the quality of life.

The Tafernwirtschaft has been fulfilling the culinary wishes of guests for 125 years. The boss only uses certified organic and regional ingredients. Vegetarians also get their money's worth here.

A place to switch off in the mountains

The rooms are puristic and modern. Local woods, which give off a wonderful scent, were used. The digital detox is also provided, as the cell phones do not work in the rooms. Internet is only available via cable.

There are hiking trails and numerous ski areas such as Zell am See, Kitzsteinhorn and Saalbach right outside the door. Active vacationers are spoiled for choice here.

Back in the chalet, you can get creative yourself in the perfectly equipped kitchen. Finally, the sauna session in the evening completes the all-round successful day.
